The Even Tide By Brook Shafranek Despite its name, The Even Tide will be sure to make some waves. The Sacramento/East Bay area band has been picking up fans left and right with their alternative sounds. Ryan Tiglao (vocals), Kit Rairigh (bass), Elliot Polo off (guitar), and Morgan Mclean (drums ) make up a happy little family that love “living in the band together” as they share their music with fans as they travel, according to the band’s Facebook page |

The Burning man in your neighbor's backyard
By Judi Morales-Gibson You may have heard of Burning Man... the naked-hippie-drug-sex-fire-freak-cult-festival... right? Every Labor Day, the talking-heads media mentions Burning Man, with images of naked-mud people dancing around a bonfire. Freaks. |

BerlinRose
The Chemistry By Brooke Shafranek Indie band Berlinrose doesn’t just break walls—it brings the whole house down. The foursome made up of Alfonso Magallon (guitar/vocals), Phillip Yee (bass), Marquie Mosley (guitar), and Dan Ochoa (drums) bring their inspirational sounds to audiences in the California area. Magallon describes Berlinrose’s sound as “very eclectic.” He says, “We all have our preferred music styles and ideas, but at the end of the day that’s what makes us all come together.” He explains that Berlinrose is not aspiring to go for a style that’s typical, though the band’s influences are evident, and range from Green Day to Led Zeppelin to Dashboard Confessional. “Originally we all tried to write material that was different from what we usually listen to, a habit that is very hard to get out of,” Magallon shares. “We wanted to put stuff in people’s hands that is unique in every way, and not genre specific, in a way it kind of is unique, but it isn’t like we’re trying to create a new genre.” |

FITTER
THROUGH THE GREEN JUNGLES OF PLENTY By Adrian Nevarez Every city in the world has some sort of local music scene. Some have extreme diversity while others stick to the basics. Although it may be tedious and mentally disturbing, I enjoy sifting through local scenes regularly with the hopes that an interesting band will show signs of life. Under the rubble where bands create, promote, and live is where every band starts and most demise. |

CandyFlip
By Brooke Shafranek One thing is certain about Salinas band Candyflip: their music definitely is sweet. Stephan Sams (lead vocals, lead guitar), Eddie Edwards (bass guitar, vocals), Colin St. John (keys, vocals) Josh Bojorquez (rhythm guitar) and Brian Delacruz (drums) have taken their psychedelic-progressive-rock sound and shared it with crowds all over the California state. |

Orgullo Cafe Por Adrian Nevarez

The Sledge Grits Band Music from the heart By Brooke Shafranek
As the saying goes, music comes from the heart. The Sledge Grits band, then, must have a heck of a lot of heart. Mimi (vocals), Keiko (guitar), Bo-Pah (drums) and Kariel (bass) Sledge are four sisters who know enough about heart to make incredible music as a rock-pop family band. The girls’ age range from seven to fourteen, holding with them fire and talent. |
